There was a ton of great food on Maui – but these are our favorites!
We took a pretty impromptu trip to Maui a while back after scoring ridiculous deals when Southwest opened up their routes to Hawaii, and LOVED every second of that trip. We ate a lot of good food that I felt the need to recommend to anyone headed there. First let me preface by saying there were a lot of places we wanted to try that we didn’t get to, just because we had stocked up on a lot of pic-nick kind of foods so we could eat on the go and save time for exploring! If you do that, I highly recommend bringing cash with you so you can stop at the many road-side fruit stands, food trucks, & such to buy local produce and snacks along the way!

But I digress, here are a few actual foodie stops we did try that I would recommend:
Grandma’s Coffee Shop
- Keokea (Upcountry)
- We got coconut French toast and a breakfast sandwich and it was *wait for it* LEGENDARY. Great spot for banana bread to snack on later. We loved everything we ate there. Their t-shirts are also uber soft just FYI.
- This is close to Oprah’s house (yes, THE Oprah), and one of her faves, so you might just see her there if you’re obscenely lucky…we weren’t.

La Provence
- Kula
- We accidentally happened into this place after running out of gas on our way down Haleakalā, and it absolutely made our day. We got there before their full menu was available and just got pastries, but everything there is bomb!
- Outside area is super peaceful and the owners are adorable people.

Cafe Dee Amis
- Paia
- We went several times we loved it so much, and everything we ordered was great! There’s everything from Greek salad to Curry, on the menu and it’s all so good. Live music at night, and you feel like family when you step in.
- This is in one of my favorite areas of Maui – Paia is near where Willie Nelson has a house, and he adores this place for good reason. It’s quaint, artsy, and full of wonderful vibes and friendly people.

Mama’s Fish House
- Paia
- Chances are, if you’ve done any research on food in Maui, you’ve already heard of this one! They are ridiculously famous and it’s a spot where every celebrity who visits Maui has been. Worth. The. Hype. But also very hard to get a reservation, I recommend doing that weeks or months in advance, and try for sunset times.
- If you don’t get reservations or don’t want to spend a ton of time, head to the bar for a delicious Mai Thai and one of their fab appetizers. The food and drinks are phenomenal and it’s just a beautiful spot to check out regardless. You won’t be sorry.

Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice
- Paia
- Can you tell we loved Paia? Ha! If youv’e done any research on Hawaii, you’ve heard of their famous shave-ice…essentially the Hawaiian take on Sno-cones. They put ice-cream and cream toppers on some, and they’re oh-so delicious. I recommend taking whatever recommendations the locals have and stepping out of your comfort zone to try local-produce inspired flavors. Mine was a mix of all things Hawaiian and it was unforgettable.

Thai Food by Pranee
- Hana Town
- This is a food truck that is apparently the “best shit ever” (via multiple sources!) but they sell out fast for that reason, and we missed out. I’m adding it because I definitely trust my sources, and the fact that it’s sold out is a good sign.
- My friend Kasey recommends the opakapaka fish if they have it!
Lineage
- Wailea
- This was another rec by Kasey (who was nice enough to set up reservations and have champagne delivered to our table <3) and worth a visit if you’re in the area. Very interesting menu items and if you get the avocado dessert (if it is still on the menu since it does change I believe), ask for the story for what inspired it! Head chef here was on Top Chef
- I recommend reservations here, and if you are in the area earlier in the day, this restrauant is smack dab in the middle of The Shopes at Wailea which has some higher-end shopping chain stores if you’re in the mood. This is also super close to Wailea Beach Resort if that’s where you stay.

Coconut’s
- Wailea
- Another place we happened upon and ended up frequenting during our trip. It’s just a simple fish taco place but YA’LL. Those tacos are life….I’m drooling thinking about them! Try all different styles. Trust me. Budget friendly too. Don’t miss it.
- The shopping center next to this has a relaxed little grocery store that is full of reef-friendly suntan lotions and tanning products if you’re interested. Also a great place to stock up on snacks if you’re snacky like us. (pic)

- Recs we didn’t’ get to try, including those from my friend Kasey (previous Maui Local):
- Ka’ana at Andaz (Hyatt hotel) for breakfast
- Spago at Four Season’s Resort for dinner
- Monkeypod for happy hour (Mai Thai’s topped with lilikoi foam!)
- The Gazebo in Lahaina (world famous breakfast fried rice, get there EARLY)
Most of what we ate during this trip was great (I’m omitting the stops we didn’t love), but I’d love to hear what your Maui food favorites are!
